Horses of Hoofprint Bay: Demo vs Full Game

Reviewed: · Hoofprint Bay Wiki editors

The demo caps play at 25 in-game days. October demo saves carry into the full game; February demo saves do not.

The Horses of Hoofprint Bay demo is a free Steam trial that stops at 25 in-game days (rounds). The full game, released November 4, 2026, has no day cap. Both demo builds stay available after launch, so you can try the game before buying.

If you plan to buy, play the October demo (the Steam Next Fest build) — its saves carry into the full game. The February demo does not transfer.

Within those 25 days you can try horse care, training, riding lessons, competitions, some building upgrades, and breeding a foal or two. You won't max out your stables or improve stock across generations in the demo window.

Which demo save carries over

  • October demo saves are compatible with the full game on release.
  • February demo saves are not made compatible.

The February build was kept on a separate Steam branch so it stays playable. To reach it, right-click the game in your library, open Properties, go to Game Versions and Betas, and select the February demo branch. You only need this if you specifically want the old build; new players should just install the current demo.

What changed between the two demos

The October build was rebalanced to mirror the first 25 days of the real game more closely:

  • Your starting horse has much lower stats, so you likely won't progress as far in 25 days.
  • New features were added: walking your horse (foals can come along), Caprilli tests, new trail ride environments, desensitization training, face markings, and appaloosa patterns.

A later developer update says Prestige, horse personality traits, and Cross Country competitions have been implemented and are being tested and balanced. That update does not list them among the October demo's features, so treat them as full-game systems rather than confirmed demo content.

Practical notes

  • The demo has its own Steam store page. Reviews and feedback go there, not on the main game page.
  • The demo page lists single-player, Steam Cloud, and Steam achievements, with interface and subtitles in English plus 20 more languages.
  • Steam Deck compatibility is listed as Unknown; Windows and Linux are the listed platforms.
