Horses of Hoofprint Bay: Updates and Release Timeline

Reviewed: · Hoofprint Bay Wiki editors

A dated timeline of Horses of Hoofprint Bay updates, from the August feature devlog to the October demo and November 4, 2026 full release.

Horses of Hoofprint Bay released as a full game on November 4, 2026 on Steam, following an updated demo during Steam Next Fest in late October. There was no Early Access period and no feature-addition roadmap, so the dates below are a short pre-release and launch sequence rather than an ongoing patch schedule.

Systems confirmed in the August devlog

The August 12 dev update confirmed several systems that were implemented and in testing:

  • Prestige tracks overall progress. It rises from building upgrades, competition wins, caring for boarders, and high-quality horses. It falls from failed competitions, competing on a dirty horse or in unsuitable clothing, and serious illness. Prestige gates breeder horse quality, shop tack variety, and which trail rides you can unlock.
  • Going on a Walk works in the arena and forest. It's recommended for nursing mares so their foals come along.
  • Confidence and desensitization were reworked. Unprompted gait changes now show a warning icon before they happen. The Desensitization course has you approach a scary object, praise curiosity, and give the horse space when it's worried. Confidence now takes longer to max out.
  • Cross Country is a third discipline alongside Caprilli Tests and Showjumping, aimed at late-game horses with high strength and endurance. Some routes let you choose a shorter, harder path or a longer, easier one. A new staff member, Maria, gives training feedback.
  • Horse personality traits add tendencies such as getting dirty faster, higher or lower injury risk, or occasional unprompted gait changes.

Demo limits and save compatibility

The Next Fest demo announcement set out the demo's contents and limits. The October demo was capped at 25 days of playtime, started horses with much lower stats after rebalancing, and added walking (with or without foals), Caprilli tests, new trail environments, desensitization training, face markings, and Appaloosa patterns.

Save compatibility:

  • October demo saves were announced as compatible with the full game on release.
  • February demo saves were not made compatible. The February demo stayed available on a separate Steam branch.
  • Both demos were said to remain available after release, so you can still try the game before buying.

Launch extras and creator rules

The October 30 pre-launch post described a digital art book (over 50 pages of sketches, animation frames, and work-in-progress screenshots) and a coloring-page booklet, with final bugfixes still in progress.

The release announcement confirmed the November 4 launch, bundles with other horse games, and a Developer Q&A on the publisher's site. It also published a Creator Policy: you may make and monetize videos and streams, including the in-game music, but you may not upload the soundtrack on its own or use the music outside coverage of the game.

What to expect from updates

The August 21 release-date post stated the game would go straight to full release with no Early Access and no feature-addition roadmap. The team said it would watch launch experiences and fix bugs as needed rather than promise major updates. Treat the August devlog and October demo notes as pre-release history, not as a live patch feed.
